Tip: Avoid going out too fast. A common mistake amongst runners is the
tendenc
y to go out too fast during the early miles. Inevitably, they pay for it
later
when they cramp or lose steam after the halfway point. By now, you have a
goo
d grasp of your sustainable pace. Don’t go faster than this during the
first
few miles.
Tip: Have a time goal in mind for each of the first few miles and stick to
it.
Tip: Remember your first goal. Your number one goal for your first marathon
is simply to finish. Don’t obsess about your finishing time. Finishing time
goals should always be secondary to running a safe and smart race.
Tip: Popular solutions for fatigue and/or muscle cramping include stopping
briefly to stretch, walking through each water station or slowing down and
shortening your stride.
